The Max Born Institute (MBI) for Nonlinear Optics and Short Pulse Spectroscopy was founded in 1992 and is a member of the Forschungsverbund Berlin (the Berlin research network) and the Leibniz association. The MBI has a staff of about 180.
MBI’s research is focused on nonlinear optics, ultra-fast dynamics of light-matter interaction, and applications of this basic research. Ultrashort laser sources from the mid-infrared to the x-ray spectral region are available.
As a major national research institute, MBI is strongly embedded into international collaborations and offers its facilities and expertise to scientific guests. MBI is involved in numerous joint research projects with scientific and industrial partners.
